Lab Grown Diamonds
What Are Lab-Grown Diamonds?
A lab grown diamond is not a fake diamond. It is not a cubic zirconia. It is a real diamond, grown above the earth using the same process that forms diamonds beneath it.
The only difference is origin. And that difference saves you money and reduces environmental impact.
How Lab-Grown Diamonds Are Made
High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT)
This method replicates the conditions deep inside the earth. A small diamond seed is exposed to extreme pressure and high temperatures. Carbon around the seed crystallises and grows into a full diamond. The result is chemically and structurally identical to a natural mined stone. At Yaksha, we work with both CVD and HPHT grown diamonds, depending on the piece. Every diamond is IGI certified before it enters our workshop.
Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD)
A small diamond seed is placed in a chamber filled with carbon-rich gas. The gas is heated to extreme temperatures and carbon atoms begin to bond, layer by layer, onto the seed. Over a few weeks, a rough diamond crystal forms. This is then cut, polished and graded, just like any mined stone.
Lab Grown vs Mined Diamonds
Physically Identical
A lab grown diamond has the same hardness (10 on the Mohs scale), the same refractive index, the same crystal structure as a mined diamond. A gemologist cannot distinguish one from the other without specialised equipment.
Better Value
Because lab grown diamonds do not involve large-scale mining operations, they cost significantly less to produce. That saving comes to you directly. At Yaksha, you get a larger, higher-graded stone for the same budget.
A Smaller Footprint
Traditional diamond mining requires significant land disruption, water usage and energy. Lab grown diamonds are produced in controlled facilities. While they do use energy, the overall environmental footprint is considerably smaller.
The Same Grading
Lab grown diamonds are graded using the same 4C system as mined diamonds: Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat. IGI, the International Gemological Institute, is one of the world's most respected grading bodies and certifies every diamond at Yaksha.
From CVD Rough to Polished Diamond
Through advanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) technology, a rough diamond is carefully grown and transformed into a brilliant, polished gem - identical in beauty, structure, and brilliance to a natural diamond.
The 4Cs Explained Simply
Cut
Cut refers to how well the diamond has been shaped and faceted. A well-cut diamond reflects light beautifully. This is the factor that most determines how brilliant your stone looks.
Colour
Diamond colour is graded from D (completely colourless) to Z (visible yellow). At Yaksha, most of our stones fall between D and H, giving you a near-colourless to colourless appearance.
Clarity
Clarity describes the presence of internal inclusions or external blemishes. Grades range from FL (flawless) to I3. Our stones are selected to ensure inclusions are not visible to the naked eye.
Carat
Carat is the unit of weight for diamonds. One carat equals 0.2 grams. Heavier diamonds are rarer and therefore more valuable, all other factors being equal. Lab grown diamonds allow you to go higher in carat for the same budget.
Your Assurance
What Your IGI Certificate Tells You
Every Yaksha diamond comes with an IGI grading report. This report is your assurance. It details the shape, measurements, carat weight, colour grade, clarity grade, cut grade and any additional identifying features of your specific stone. You can verify it independently on the IGI website using the unique report number.
